Frequently Asked Questions

Does the PEF process involve radiation?
No. The PEF treatment process deals with short high voltage impulses killing microorganisms. Therefore, the PEF does not involve radiation.

Is the juice still considered raw?
No.

What is non-thermal pasteurization?
During the PEF treatment there is some temperature rises, typically at 35-50 degrees Celsius. The preservative effect is non-thermal ( Pulsed Electric Field Processing-article by Peter Clark ).

Is the technology that Genesis Juice uses approved by the FDA?
Genesis met the FDA requirements using the PEF processing; by August, 2005, Genesis re-introduced most of its popular flavors.

What is the shelf live of the products?
Thanks to the non-thermal treatment, the shelf-life of the products is at least of 30 days.

Are you still using reusable glass bottles?
No. But we encourage our customers to recycle the glass.

Are the natural flavors kept with the non-thermal treatment?
Yes. Thanks to the low temperatures, the susceptible flavors are preserved.

What is pasteurization?
Pasteurization vs. PEF vs. Flash…It is well documented that the quality degradation of juices takes place by heat processing and knowledgeable consumers corroborate such finding by purchasing patterns. Clearly, highly volatile and sensitive flavor compounds are susceptible to thermal degradation and heat load during heat pasteurization can negatively impact the overall juice flavor.

What is the definition of phytonutrients?
Naturally occurring health promoting plant compounds. Phytonutrients have antioxidant properties.
